KETOGURU

HAVE A DIET EXPERT AT YOUR REACH

ABOUT KETOGURU

KetoGuru is an app which helps people following a Ketogenic diet connect with a diet expert who monitors their diet intake and answer queries on a real time basis

THE PROBLEM

A ketogenic diet has a lot of restrictions which need to be followed carefully. Even though there is a lot of information on the internet, users are facing the difficulty of getting personalized diet plans, quick responses to queries and an expert to monitor their food intake.

THE GOAL

To create a mobile application which helps users find an expert or mentor and share diaries, diet plans using the app. The app will have features for creating and sharing body profile, personal macros, recipes and food diaries with the expert easily and instantaneously.

TIMELINE - 4 WEEKS

MY ROLE

As a UX designer, my responsibilities included defining the scope, conducting user research in form of user interviews and contextual inquiry, sketching, wire-framing and prototyping, User testing and evaluation.

RESEARCH INSIGHTS
PERSONA

After conducting user interviews, I created user persona, identifying their needs, their pain points, their technologies used and their behavior.

USER EXPERIENCE JOURNEY MAP

The journey map helps to understand and empathize with the user while understanding where their pain points lie.

Value Proposition Canvas

The Value Proposition Canvas helps to systematically understand what customers want and it creates products and services that match their needs.

FEATURES

By bringing together the research data, I ideated solutions based on the user's problems, behaviors, priority and requirements.

PAPER PROTOTYPE TESTING AND ITERATING

I conducted user testing on my paper prototype to get feedback before creating digital wireframes.

  • Insights from paper prototype testing

1. The tell us about yourself screen has too much information. This was making the user feel overwhelmed. Hence, i decided to keep only important information which directly helped in macro calculation on the screen.

I had assumed that keeping all information input in one page would fake the process feel shorter, while reverse was the case.

2. Added tool tips where information required was not clear enough for every type of user.

WIREFRAMING

As I moved on to designing the interface of the application, I created low fidelity wireframes and conducted usability test sessions with 5 users.

Issues identified and Iterations

The 'Tell us about yourself' screen was still a little information heavy and lacked good interactions. I decided to split the information on this screen to 3 separate screens and added some visuals to the data input type.

EXPLORING DIFFERENT LAYOUTS

Shown below are different options for the View Progress page explored and tested with users on a weight change journey.

Issue - Shows lot of information scattered around without hierarchy.

Issue - Shows weight loss progress, but does not focus on lbs remaining to reach goal weight

User can first see their starting, current and goal weight, then look at their weight loss trends over different periods

DESIGN SYSTEM

As I moved on to designing the UI,  I defined a style guide system. I wanted to give the app an organic, fresh and clean look

THE SOLUTION

The main components of the app are:

1. Creating user profile and calculating macros.

2. Finding and connecting with a keto expert

3. Communicating and sharing progress with the expert

Below are some of the key screens of the application.

DATA INPUT FOR MACRO CALCULATION:

Feed in your gender, age, height and weight

Enter goal weight & select  activity level based on your lifestyle

Select end goals and deficit levels desired

Get Macros calculated for you body profile

FINDING AND CONNECTING WITH A KETO EXPERT

Search for an expert based on location, language or gender

View keto experts matching your criteria

View details and read reviews about the expert

Send request to connect and discuss the fees, schedule, if any

CONCLUSION
Reflection and next steps

This project was a challenging one in that it was ever-changing and dynamic. Right from the name it kept changing as every research step brought different solutions to the problem. Also finding users who have followed or are following the diet became a challenge. I observed that users who knew about the keto diet could navigate through the app better than those who didn't. As a designer, it taught me how to be more people and solution focused and not feature focused.

In the future as I continue to work on this project, I would like to add the following features
  • Add a community feature which includes challenges and helps to meet other keto diet followers.

  • Include a feature to add friends and share diaries and progress to keep each other motivated

  • Being able to share recipes from others which can be edited and then added into your own diary
